Publishing, Insectigations, and Memories
Last week we celebrated each other as writers while publishing our first pieces. From The Misplaced Plants to The Book of Emojis to Captain Pajama Pants, we had a wide range of truly unique topics. Then we began planning and drafting our memory stories. These narrative pieces will take us through the entire writing process from prewriting to rough drafts, then to revising and editing with someone, and finally to a published final draft. Be sure to ask your child about the memory they have chosen to write about. Talking with them will help them to develop more details in order to better tell their story. We explored ways to sort and group numbers when adding to find the simplest solution for each mathematician. As scientists, we observed animals' traits and behaviors to begin thinking about classification. Our Insectigations experience at Sesqui gave us the opportunity to do this with live insects. We also continued to examine our thinking as readers through our author study on Eve Bunting. Her powerful memory stories have also inspired us as writers.
